Cheap Trick Announces Summer Tour
The band is currently in the studio writing and recording songs with the help of veteran engineer Steve Albini. There is, however, no projected release date for the new material; the band will place the recording process on hold while it heads out on its summer tour.
Albini--who has engineered recordings by such acts as Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails--worked with Cheap Trick on the band's 1997, vinyl-only single "Baby Talk."
This year, according to a Cheap Trick spokesperson, the band may release a live recording of its 25th anniversary performance, which took place last August in the band's hometown of Rockford, Ill. The live album, if released, may also be accompanied by a DVD release.
Cheap Trick--singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos--debuted in 1977 with the release of its self-titled album. The band achieved widespread popularity with the subsequent, late-'70s releases "Heaven Tonight," "Dream Police" and the live recording "At Budokan."
The band's summer tour is currently scheduled to run through August 26.
