Angels and Airwaves take flight in the new year

November 8, 2007 03:11 PM
With a new album just released, Angels and Airwaves are looking forward to headlining a tour of North America next year.

The alt-rock band, fronted by former Blink-182 leader Tom DeLonge, will finish 2007 with a string of holiday radio festivals before launching its club/theater outing Feb. 1 in Dallas. US and Canadian dates are currently scheduled through early March, and more shows are expected, according to Angels and Airwaves' website. The itinerary is listed below.

Indie-rockers Meg & Dia, The Color Fred and Ace Enders will be special guests on the trek.

Earlier this week, Angels and Airwaves dropped their sophomore album, "I-Empire," which was written and produced by DeLonge. The set's lead single, "Everything's Magic," is holding steady at No. 15 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart after nine weeks. The band is also promoting a feature film titled "I-Empire" at its website.

The new album comes 18 months after the band's debut, "We Don't Need to Whisper," which reached No. 4 on The Billboard 200.

DeLonge started Angels and Airwaves two years ago to search for "the new and correct path in life," he said in the band's bio. He recruited rhythm guitarist David Kennedy (formerly of DeLonge's side-project Box Car Racer), ex-Offspring drummer Atom Willard and the band's most recent addition, 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. Wachter replaces former Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn, who left A&A earlier this year.
