Celine Dion jumps from Vegas to world tour
Following her long-term residency in Las Vegas, Celine Dion plans to hit the road in a big way, embarking on a nearly year-long international outing to support her new album.
The superstar is scheduled to launch her "Taking Chances World Tour" in mid-February, and visit South Africa, Japan and Europe before winding her way back to North America. She'll play 45 arena shows all over the US and Canada beginning Aug. 12 in Boston and running through January 2009.
The North American itinerary is listed below. Tickets for those dates go on sale beginning Nov. 16. Information about international shows can be found at Dion's website.
The Canadian chanteuse, who took home the World Music Awards' Legend honor earlier this week, will wrap her record-breaking Vegas show, "A New Day ...," Dec. 15. Dion performed in front of nearly 3 million people during the five-year residency, according to a press release.
"These past five years of performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas have been an incredibly rewarding experience for myself and my family, but I'm ready to hit the road again, with my husband and son by my side," Dion said in a statement. "It's going to be so exciting to tour the US and Canada again, and perform everything with a brand new show. I just can't wait!"
On tour, Dion will sing her biggest hits and showcase material from her new album, "Taking Chances," which is due next Tuesday (11/13). The set, her first English-language offering in three years, has Dion collaborating with artists including former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, Linda Perry and Ne-Yo. The title track has been making its way up a variety of radio charts since its September release.
Fans can catch the singer performing some of that new material on NBC-TV's "Today Show" Nov. 14 and at the Nov. 18 American Music Awards.
