Smashing Pumpkins reschedule shows after drummer's heart scare
The Smashing Pumpkins have announced make-up dates for five shows postponed last week when drummer Jimmy Chamberlain was hospitalized with chest discomfort.
Chamberlain was admitted to an Atlanta hospital Tuesday (10/30) and given an angiogram, which revealed a partially blocked artery, according to the band's publicist. The drummer rested at the hospital overnight and was released Wednesday morning.
"The good news is that my heart checked out," Chamberlain said in a press statement announcing the rescheduled dates. "No damage. Basically a small build up of plaque on one of my arteries. This combined with stress, fatigue and all of the other good things that go along with being on tour was the cause of my pain. So obviously we had to postpone the end of the tour while I recover. It should only be a week or so until JC is ready to rock again."
The affected shows include concerts in include Atlanta (10/30, 31), Austin (11/2), Dallas (11/3) and Nashville (11/5); all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates, which have been moved to later slots in November. The band's tour continues Nov. 7 in Athens, GA, and all dates are included below.
The Pumpkins' current trek is the resurrected alt-rockers' first full-scale North American run since 2000.
The band is supporting July's "Zeitgeist"--its sixth album and first collection of new material since 2000's "Machina/The Machines of God." The new set reached No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and the lead cut, "Tarantula," peaked at No. 2 on the magazine's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The album's second single, "That's the Way (My Love Is)," was released in August and the Paul Brown-directed video is streaming at MySpace TV's website.
