Def Leppard Announces Summer Tour
Def Leppard is set to kick off the third leg of its tour in support of its 1999 release, "Euphoria." The band's summer tour will begin on July 20 in Mansfield, Mass.
The band--featuring singer Joe Elliot, guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, bassist Rick Savage and drummer Rick Allen--has been off the road since wrapping up the second leg of the "Euphoria" tour in Maine on February 15.
The British pop-metal quintet first rose to fame in the 1983 with the highly successful "Pyromania," an album that sold over seven million copies. That same year, however, tragedy struck when drummer Allen lost his left arm in an auto accident.
Surprisingly, Allen--outfitted with a specially designed electronic drum kit--stayed on as the group's drummer, and the band subsequently released "Hysteria" in 1987. The album proved to be the band's most successful to date, selling over 10 million copies.
Tragedy struck again in 1990 when guitarist Steve Clark died from a drug-and-alcohol overdose while the band was in the midst of recording its fifth album. The group replaced Clark with former Whitesnake guitarist Campbell, and has since released three albums of original material, as well as two compilations of previously recorded songs.
