R. Kelly confirms 'Double Up' schedule
The official announcement is in for R. Kelly 's upcoming "Double Up" tour, and the itinerary has been tweaked a bit since last check.
The nine-week arena trek, which also features Keyshia Cole , Ne-Yo and J. Holiday , will criss-cross the US beginning with a Nov. 14 gig in Columbus, OH. The updated schedule is listed below.
Kelly said he's more excited than ever about the upcoming shows, which will be four-hour extravaganzas with four set changes and a massive production, according to a press release.
"I haven't done an arena tour in a while, and it will be a great opportunity to give my fans a memorable show where I'm pulling out all the stops," Kelly said in a statement. "Since my last arena tour, I've done a lot of great collaborations with some phenomenal artists which has given me a lot more hits to add to my repertoire."
Indeed, the R&B star collaborated with performers including Chamillionaire, Huey, Snoop Dogg, Kid Rock and Ludacris on his latest album, "Double Up," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has reached platinum status since its June release. The set is vying for Favorite Soul/R&B Album at next month's American Music Awards.
A judge has apparently cleared the way for Kelly to tour behind the record since his trial on child pornography charges has been postponed indefinitely because the lead prosecutor is on maternity leave, according to various reports.
Five years ago, the singer was charged with multiple counts of child pornography for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.
So far, the judge has been good about letting Kelly do his job. The Grammy-winning singer last toured in the spring of 2006 to support his previous No. 1 release, "TP.3 Reloaded."
Meanwhile, Kelly, known for his 22-part ghetto soap opera "Trapped in the Closet," is catering to his YouTube audience with a low-budget video for the song "Real Talk." The clip is a somewhat humorous take on the singer arguing with his girl over the phone and ends up with his posse brawling at the end. It was filmed in Kelly's basement studio, according to A&E.
