Bon Jovi, Whitney And Britney Fall In U.K. Chart Stakes
LONDON--Welsh crooner Tom Jones ' covers album "Reload" knocked Bon Jovi 's "Crush" out of the top spot on the Official U.K. Album Chart on Sunday (6/11). The triple platinum "Reload," which has sold over 900,000 copies in its 37 weeks in the chart, rose three places from No. 4 to No. 1 as "Crush," in its second week in the chart, fell three places to No. 4.
Eminem's new album "The Marshall Mathers LP" also rose one place from No. 3 to No. 2 and has been certified gold, selling over 200,000 after three weeks on release. Meanwhile, Whitney Houston 's "The Greatest Hits" fell from No. 2 to No. 3 and Britney Spears ' "Oops!... I Did It Again" also fell from No. 5 to No. 7.
The highest new entry this week was British lounge singer Jane McDonald's "Inspiration," which entered the charts at No. 6. Meanwhile, the much anticipated album, "Fold Your Hands Child You Walk Like A Peasant" by U.K. indie group Belle & Sebastian made its debut in the chart at No. 10. Other new entries included "The Best of Black Sabbath" at No. 24 and "Out There and Back" by dance mogul Paul Van Dyck at No. 12.
On the Official U.K. Singles Chart, hip-hop star Sonique held on to the No. 1 spot for a third week in a row with "It Feels So Good," and pop group S Club 7 stayed at No. 2 for a third week with "Reach." Guitar group Travis, which was tipped to go straight in at No. 1 with "Coming Around," only managed No. 5. This week's highest new entry was scored by comedian and singer Richard Blackwood, whose debut EP "Mama--Who Da Man?" entered the chart at No. 3. Whitney Houston and George Michael's duet "If I Told You That" also entered lower than expected at No. 9.
