Stevie Wonder expands fall trek
Stevie Wonder has added more dates to his performance schedule as he continues his first tour in 12 years.
The legendary singer/songwriter kicked off a fall run of North American shows last week in Montreal and a two-night stand in Atlantic City, NJ. A Nov. 17 gig at New York City's Madison Square Garden is sold out, according to promoter Live Nation. Since last check, stops have been added in Toronto; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Nashville; and Houston, as well as two nights in Uncasville, CT. Details are listed below.
Wonder's rare road trip reportedly was inspired by his mother, Lula Mae Hardaway, who passed away last year. The star is also working on an album, "The Gospel Inspired by Lula," which he hopes to have ready by January to honor his mother's birthday, according to Billboard.
His latest studio album, "A Time to Love," surfaced in 2005 and reached No. 5 on The Billboard 200. It spawned the singles "So What the Fuss," "Shelter in the Rain" and "From the Bottom of my Heart." In August, Wonder released "Number Ones," a collection of 20 chart-topping classics from his career.
The Motown icon has scored more than 30 Top 10 hits and taken home about two-dozen Grammy Awards in a career that spans five decades. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2002.
In recent years, Wonder has frequently appeared at charity events and played one-off concerts, but he hadn't toured the US since 1995.
