Willie Nelson books first 2008 shows
As Willie Nelson prepares to wrap his current tour next month, the country legend is already marking up next year's calendar.
So far, the Red-Headed Stranger has booked seven January shows across Florida. At the moment, he's making his way through the South, with stops in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Mississippi scheduled through Nov. 4. Details are listed below.
A bout of exhaustion following September's Farm Aid concert doesn't seem to have slowed Nelson a bit. In addition to all the touring, the 74-year-old performer recently pumped out another album--this one a collaboration with big-band singer/pro-golfer Don Cherry. "It's Magic," which surfaced Oct. 9, comprises 12 classics including "What a Wonderful World," "You've Changed" and the title track.
March saw the release of the two-disc set "Last of Breed," which teamed Nelson with fellow Country Music Hall of Famers Merle Haggard and Ray Price. That followed three albums that Nelson put out last year: "Songbird," "The Great American Songbook," and "You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker."
He recently told the Austin American-Statesman that his next record will be a collaboration with sister Bobbie Nelson and Jessica Simpson.
And many other projects abound. In August, Nelson released a book titled "On the Clean Road Again: Biodiesel and the Future of the Family Farm," in which he explains the benefits of biodiesel as an alternative fuel that reduces carbon dioxide emissions and could help save family farms. He's also signed on for the film "Swing Vote," a political comedy scheduled to be released next year.
When he's not making music, acting or singing the praises of biodiesel and the family farmer, Nelson is busy collecting honors. Earlier this month, he received a lifetime achievement award from University of Texas' Project on Conflict Resolution and he'll be in Nashville Nov. 6 to accept the BMI Icon honor.
