Helmet rocks the US this fall
Rock veterans Helmet are on the road this fall, taking their influential brand of post-hardcore/punk to clubs and theaters across the US.
The band, which finished a West Coast tour earlier this month, will begin its next run Oct. 29 with three shows in Texas followed by multiple dates in Florida and North Carolina. Helmet will also pass through Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, New Mexico and Arizona through late November. Details are listed below.
Helmet continues to support last year's "Monochrome," on which the band made a concerted effort to return to its original sound. To meet that end, vocalist/guitarist Page Hamilton brought in producer Wharton Tiers, who worked with the group in its early days. Tiers produced Helmet's first two albums, 1991's "Strap It On" and 1992's "Meantime," the latter of which sold more than a million copies, according to the band's website.
"Monochrome" follows 2004's "Size Matters," which marked Helmet's return after a six-year hiatus. The band, previously signed to Interscope Records, released the new set on Warcon Records, which is owned by Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman. A couple of songs from the record are streaming at Helmet's MySpace page.
The band formed in New York City in 1989 and is considered a pioneer in the genre that inspired alt-metal rockers like the Deftones, Korn and Limp Bizkit.
Hamilton is the only original member in Helmet's revolving lineup, which currently comprises guitarist Jimmy Thompson, drummer Kyle Steveson and bassist Jon Fuller.
