Eminem Faces More Weapons Charges
Rapper Eminem was charged on Thursday (6/8) for allegedly brandishing a handgun during an argument with an Insane Clown Posse employee. It was the second day in a row that the rapper was charged with a handgun violation.
According to Michigan's Oakland County Prosecutor, Eminem (a.k.a. Marshall Mathers) was leaving a car audio store in Royal Oak, Michigan last Saturday (6/3) when he ran into Dail--an employee of ICP's Psychopathic Records label--who then began insulting Eminem. Eminem reportedly got out of his car, at which point a handgun fell from his pants. Witnesses reportedly saw Eminem pick up the gun and continue his argument with Dail.
"All witnesses, including [Dail], agree that Mathers brandished the gun as [Dail and Mathers] argued," said Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney David Gorcyca via a prepared statement.
Eminem and Insane Clown Posse have a history of taunting each other on their respective albums.
Eminem was arraigned in Royal Oak District Court on Thursday afternoon on one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of brandishing a firearm in public. The first charge is a felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail; the second charge is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
"We are confident that the charges will be favorably resolved as soon as possible, and Eminem will be performing on the Up In Smoke tour beginning on June 15 in San Diego," said Interscope Records, Eminem's label, in a prepared statement issued Thursday.
Eminem was charged on Wednesday (6/7) with additional weapons charges after he allegedly again pulled out a handgun last weekend during a dispute outside of a Warren, Mich., nightclub involving his wife, Kim Mathers, and another man. He entered a not-guilty plea in that case and was freed on a $100,000 bond.
The rapper is scheduled to return to court to face the latest gun charges on July 7, the same day that the "Up in Smoke" tour is scheduled to take place in Auburn Hills, Mich. His court date for the charges filed on Wednesday is July 11, an off day for the tour.
Eminem's latest album, "The Marshall Mathers LP," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart last week, and also set a new record for the biggest first-week album sales by a solo-artist. The album maintained its position at No. 1 this week.
