Dylan film to bring array of musical talent to NYC
A wide assortment of performers will be on hand at New York City's Beacon Theater in November to celebrate an upcoming biographical movie about Bob Dylan 's life and times.
The Nov. 7 benefit show will feature 16 artists--including Cat Power, Yo La Tengo (w/ Buckwheat Zydeco), My Morning Jacket--performing Dylan's songs to honor the subject of director Todd Haynes' upcoming film, "I'm Not There."
The full lineup for the evening features the above artists, plus Jim James & Calexico, Terry Adams Rock & Roll Quartet, Mason Jennings, Joe Henry, John Doe, Michelle Shocked & Jimmy LeFave, The Roots, Mark Lanegan, Ian Ball & Olly Peacock (of Gomez), Lee Ranaldo & the Million Dollar Bashers, J Mascis, Al Kooper & Funky Faculty, Terry Adams Rock & Roll Quartet, and Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.
Tickets for the gala event are currently on sale to the public, starting at $48 for upper balcony views in the 2,800-seat theater, and going as high as $1,000 for front-and-center "Platinum VIP" placement behind the orchestra pit.
The movie, which hits screens nationwide Nov. 21, tells the story of Dylan's life and music through six different characters, portrayed by Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Marcus Carl Franklin and Ben Whishaw. The film is the first biopic ever authorized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
All proceeds from the evening will benefit a pair of non-profit organizations: 826 National and 826 Valencia. Both organizations provide creative writing and expository instruction to students aged 6-18.
As for Dylan himself, he's currently crisscrossing the country with Elvis Costello in tow. The two veteran rockers are due tomorrow night (10/19) in Bloomington, IN, for the first of a pair of shows. Remaining dates for the fall outing are included below.
