October's Music DVD Releases: Elton John, Glen Campbell, Tom Petty
Elton John
"Elton 60: Live at Madison Square Garden"
(Rocket/UMe)
The Rocket Man's 60th birthday concert performed at New York's Madison Square Garden on March 25 is now available on DVD through Rocket/UMe. The first disc of the two-disc set features the 33-song performance with favorites "Bennie and the Jets," "Tiny Dancer" and "I'm Still Standing," among others. Rare footage from a variety of television shows--including "Top of the Pops" and "Royal Variety Show" and other miscellaneous concert segments--fill the second disc.
Glen Campbell
"Time Life Presents Glen Campbell: Good Times Again"
(Time Life)
This 75-minute disc features highlight performances from Campbell's late '60s variety show, "Good Times Again." Featured guests in the lineup include Bobbie Gentry, Johnny Cash, Rick Nelson, Ray Charles, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson and more.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
"Runnin' Down a Dream"
(Exclusive to Best Buy)
A four-disc collection of all things Tom Petty hits Best Buy shelves exclusively on Oct. 16. Peter Bogdanovich, director of "The Last Picture Show," has wrapped up an in-depth documentary on the rock group in honor of its 30th anniversary. The DVD compilation will also include the group's 30th anniversary concert performed last September in its native Gainesville, Florida.
Heart
"Dreamboat Annie Live"
(Shout! Factory)
In mid-April 2007, rock and roll legends Heart played a packed house at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, performing their debut album, "Dreamboat Annie," in entirety for the first time. The performance, which aired over Mother's Day weekend on DirecTV, will hit store shelves Oct. 23 as the first release in Shout! Factory's new DVD/CD series entitled "Legendary Albums Live."
Slayer
"Unholy Alliance Tour"
(American Recordings)
Just in time for Halloween, heavy metal icons Slayer will release their "Unholy Alliance Tour" DVD Oct. 30. Shot in July 2006 at Vancouver's General Motors Place, the roughly 90-minute disc features highlights of the headlining act, as well as snippets of emerging rockers Lamb of God, Mastodon, Children of Bodom and Thine Eyes Bleed. Backstage access, behind-the-scenes action and one-on-one interviews round out the footage.
