Bjork returns to the US in December

Bjork continues to support her latest album, "Volta," with concerts around the globe and she's recently added a couple more in the US.

The Icelandic singer/songwriter, who has been touring North America and Europe since spring, did a short run of US and Canadian dates last month, including performances at Toronto's Virgin Festival, Texas' Austin City Limits fest and New York City's Madison Square Garden. Following upcoming shows in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico, she'll head to the western US for December gigs in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. US performances are listed below while the South American dates can be found at Bjork's website.

"Volta," the singer's sixth studio album since departing The Sugarcubes in 1992, surfaced in May and debuted at No. 9 on The Billboard 200--the highest debut of her career. The set also snagged the No. 1 spot on the Top Electronic Albums chart.

Bjork wrote and produced the record with production assistance from Timbaland and Mark Bell on three tracks. She also collaborated with several other artists including Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons and tribal-rhythm collective Konono N°1.

The single "Innocence" and a couple of song samples from the album are streaming at Bjork's MySpace page.

"Volta" follows 2004's "Medulla," the majority of which focuses solely on vocals. After making two albums at home, having a child and enjoying domestic bliss, Bjork started on a new rhythm discovery trip with "Volta," according to The Gazette of Montreal.

"In the beginning of 'Volta,' I had a bit of cabin fever and was up for some adventure," the 12-time Grammy nominee told the publication. "So I ended up traveling a lot, meeting a lot of people, recording in Africa, on a boat and so on."

The album has sold more than a half million copies since its release, according to Bjork's publicist.
