Garth Brooks expands concert plans
In response to overwhelming demand, Garth Brooks --who last week announced plans to perform a special one-off concert in Kansas City, MO, next month--has expanded that engagement to a total of nine consecutive shows.
Tickets for Brooks' previously announced Nov. 14 show--which were priced at $25 each, plus fees--went on sale Saturday (10/6), and immediately sold out; Brooks and organizers continued adding shows to satisfy ticket demand until the run had grown to encompass shows Nov. 5-12 and 14.
"The incredible demand from the most loyal fans in the world made today's sale of tickets for Garth Brooks upcoming concerts at Sprint Center unprecedented," Brenda Tinnen, general manager of Kansas City's new Sprint Center arena, said in a statement issued Saturday (10/6). "The people of Kansas City, Sprint Center and [concert promoter] AEG owe Garth a tremendous debt of gratitude not for only choosing us, but also for extending his engagement to 9 shows."
"For the first time in my life I'm speechless," Brooks added in a press release.
The nine sold-out shows represent sales of about 140,000 tickets, all of which were snapped up in under two hours, according to The Kansas City Star.
In addition to tacking eight additional shows onto his schedule, Brooks announced that his wife, Trisha Yearwood, would also perform at each of the concerts.
Meanwhile, Brooks has already booked yet another show, this one on Nov. 16 at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, OK, where he'll perform as part of the Oklahoma Centennial Spectacular..
Brooks has not mounted a formal tour since announcing his retirement from the music business in 2000.
Brooks' next release, the three-disc best-of "The Ultimate Hits," is due at all music retailers Nov. 6.
