Ben Lee 'Ripe' for US return

Singer/songwriter Ben Lee returns to North America this winter with a headlining tour in support of his latest album, "Ripe," which hit stores last month.

The Australian-born performer kicks things off Nov. 1 in Santa Barbara, CA, the first date of a 32-city club tour as Lee begins the push behind his first full-length release since 2005's "Awake is the New Sleep."

Lee will be joined on stage by his usual keyboardist, Nic Johns, and gets opening support from singer/songwriter Cary Brothers for the whole tour, and singer Kate Voegele from the crew's Nov. 20 New York City date onward. The full schedule is included below.

Tickets for the shows go on sale to the general public Oct. 10, with pre-sales available exclusively through Lee's MySpace page beginning Oct. 8. Check the site for more information.

"Ripe," produced by John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer), is Lee's sixth studio album in a solo career dating back to 1995's "Grandpaw Would," released when the prodigious Lee was a mere 16 years old. The new album features guest appearances from a variety of sources, including Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, Benmont Tench from Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, all the members of Rooney and pop star Mandy Moore.

"That fell together pretty easily," Lee said in a press release of Moore's appearance on the disc. "I'd been thinking a lot about how innate the search for love is for people, and after I wrote it I went to a Mandy Moore show. Backstage she told me she was a fan, and it just came to me that she'd be the perfect voice on the track. I really had no Plan B--Mandy was just so perfect!

"Ripe," which debuted at No. 8 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, will soon be released in a special audiophile edition on 180-gram vinyl.
