Isaac Hanson [ tickets ], guitarist and oldest member of pop trio Hanson, is recovering in a Dallas hospital after undergoing surgery to relieve a blood clot in his lungs.

Isaac, the eldest of three brothers in the pop-rock act, was admitted to Baylor University Medical Center Wednesday (10/3) after complaining of chest and shoulder pain following the band's Dallas show the previous night, according to the group's publicist, Ken Phillips. He was initially diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, which occurs when a blood clot breaks free from a vein and travels toward the lungs.

Further investigation by doctors discovered that Hanson was suffering from venous thoracic outlet syndrome--also known as Paget-Schroeder Syndrome--and surgery would be required to correct the problem, according to Phillips.

Hanson's surgery was performed Thursday night (10/4) by Dr. Bradley Grimsley, who termed the operation "successful" and expects Hanson to make a "full and swift recovery," according to the publicist.

The group, which had just begun a headlining tour in support of its fourth studio set, "The Walk," canceled three shows in the wake of the eldest Hanson's medical condition. Pending final approval from his doctors, Isaac Hanson could be released from the hospital Friday, Phillips said. The band plans to resume its tour Oct. 8 in Knoxville, TN.

Phillips added that the tour's promoters are currently working on rescheduling the three canceled shows, which were set to take place in Tulsa, OK; St. Louis; and Kansas City, MO.
