Trans-Siberian Orchestra gears up for holiday run
As the holidays approach, so does the extensive annual music tour put on by Trans-Siberian Orchestra .
This year's outing, said to be the symphonic rock band's largest yet, is scheduled to stop in more than 90 cities in the US and Canada. TSO will once again break into two touring units, enabling the group to cover a lot of ground during the 10-week run.
The fun starts Nov. 1 with a three-night stand in Youngstown, OH, and continues with arena shows from coast to coast into January. Trans-Siberian Orchestra will give afternoon and evening performances in about 35 cities along the way. The itinerary is listed below, and tickets are currently on sale.
Last year's winter tour was TSO's most successful to date, with more than 1 million fans coming out for 80 shows, according to a press release.
"TSO continues to grow because we put the fans first, providing an affordably priced ticket to the biggest and boldest show in rock," founder Paul O'Neill said in a statement, adding that the band's cross-generational appeal comes from its diverse mix of rock, classical, metal, gospel, jazz and other styles.
"We also work to make sure there's no second-class seat in the house," O'Neill continued. "The impact is as powerful in the back of the house at a TSO show as it is in the orchestra section, due to the tremendous efforts we put into staying ahead of the pack with our staging and pyrotechnics, and, of course, the passion of our players."
The players include a hard rock band alongside a complete orchestra and a large ensemble of lead vocalists.
O'Neill--the composer, lyricist and producer behind TSO--started the band in 1996 and has since released four CDs and one DVD. The group's most recent studio album, "The Lost Christmas Eve," surfaced in 2004 and was followed later that year by the box set "The Christmas Trilogy."
Trans-Siberian Orchestra is currently working on its next offering, which will be titled "Nightcastle," according to a posting at its website.
