Duran Duran previews new album on Broadway
Duran Duran will take over Broadway's legendary Barrymore Theatre for nine days next month to preview material from its forthcoming album, "Red Carpet Massacre."
The New York City run, which kicks off Nov. 1, marks the first time that any band has embarked on such an extended stay in a Broadway theater, according to a press release. Duran Duran will take the stage for more than two hours each night, performing "Red Carpet Massacre" in its entirety, as well as a number of its classics.
"We have made an album that we are all really proud of and we wanted to present it in a very unique way," singer Simon LeBon said in a statement. "Staging a run on Broadway is something that we've often talked about over the years--but the time has never seemed right until now."
Tickets are currently available for fan club members and Citi credit-card holders, and will go on sale to the general public beginning Oct. 6. Dates are listed below.
Duran Duran began recording "Red Carpet Massacre" in New York City last year with production help from Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Nate "Danja" Hills and Jimmy Douglass. In the middle of everything, guitarist Andy Taylor split with the band and the remaining four members--LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor--decided to start over from scratch.
The new album, due Nov. 13 in the US, is Duran Duran's first since 2004's "Astronaut." The latter set followed the new-wave rockers' 25th anniversary reunion tour in 2003 and marked their first new studio effort in more than two decades.
"Falling Down," the Timberlake-produced lead single from "Red Carpet Massacre," is streaming at Duran Duran's MySpace page.
