Silverchair returns with more US dates
Australian grunge-rockers Silverchair have lined up a fresh round of US tour dates as the band battles back from downtime forced by its lead singer's health problems.
The hard-rock trio will launch a two-week run on American cities kicking off Nov. 14 in Anaheim, CA. About half of the 12-city trek will be spent near the West Coast, with the band heading south and east as the outing progresses. Dates are listed below.
Several of the November shows (including the tour opener in Anaheim) make good on dates postponed earlier this year when singer Dan Johns suffered a throat infection, the most recent in a string of health issues that have plagued Johns and the band over the last few years, including reactive arthritis and anorexia.
"He's probably been the healthiest he's been, ever since I can remember," drummer Ben Gillies told LiveDaily in July. "It seems like there was one thing after another. First, there's anorexia then the arthritis. It just seemed so constant. I think at the end he was getting advice in Australia saying, 'You need to rest and you need to just not move.' This was when he had arthritis and very skinny as well. The people said 'Rest, don't move. You've just got to wait it out.' It was going on for months."
The group is touring behind a new album, "Young Modern." Released in April, the disc hit the top of the album charts in Australia earlier this summer, marking the band's fifth consecutive album to do so, which gave Silverchair more No. 1 albums than any other Aussie band in history, including Midnight Oil (four), and INXS and AC/DC (three).
