Barry Manilow sings 'Greatest Songs' on the road
Barry Manilow , who has spent the last couple of years performing exclusively at the Las Vegas Hilton, will venture away from Sin City later this year as he backs his just-released album, "The Greatest Songs of the Seventies."
Manilow has booked four early December dates in the East and Midwest; details are included below. The short run follows shows that took place earlier this month in Philadelphia and Boston.
Meanwhile, the singer will also play over 30 dates in Vegas for his Hilton production, which is dubbed "Manilow: Music and Passion." Details about the show and ticket information is available at the show's website.
Released yesterday (9/18), "The Greatest Songs of the Seventies" features such favorites as The Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road," Elton John's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word," Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," The Hollies' "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother," Albert Hammond's "It Never Rains in Southern California," and The Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You," as well as six new acoustic versions of some of Manilow's original hits, including "Mandy," "Copacabana (At the Copa)," "I Write the Songs" and "Looks Like We Made It."
A limited-edition deluxe version of "The Greatest Songs of the Seventies" includes a DVD "in which Barry takes you down memory lane sharing intimiate moments and reflecting on the 1970s," according to the singer's website.
Manilow will help give the new set a push with an appearance on tomorrow's (9/20) episode of the "The Martha Stewart Show," and is also scheduled to have segments on tonight's episodes of "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider," according to his site.
Earlier this week, Manilow made headlines when he backed out of his planned appearance on Tuesday's (9/18) edition of "The View."
"I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on 'The View' tomorrow as scheduled," Manilow wrote in a message posted Monday (9/17) at his website. "I had made a request that I be interviewed by Joy, Barbara or Whoopi, but not Elisabeth Hasselback. Unfortunately, the show was not willing to accommodate this simple request so I bowed out.
"It’s really too bad because I've always been a big supporter of the show, but I cannot compromise my beliefs. The good news is that I will be on a whole slew of other shows promoting the new album so I hope you can catch me on those."
