Robbers on High Street nab accomplices for fall tours
Indie rockers Robbers on High Street will launch a pair of co-headlining tours this fall as they continue to support their sophomore album, July's "Grand Animals."
The New York trio will hook up with indie-pop outfit Longwave for the first stretch of dates, kicking off Sept. 21 in Philadelphia. The run will cover shows in eight cities, plus a Sept. 28 show in New York with art-rockers We Are Scientists.
In October, the Robbers will kick off a longer co-headlining trek with Los Angeles indie rockers Great Northern . The outing launches Oct. 23 in Chapel Hill, NC, with the two bands conspiring to hit 21 cities through mid-November. Dates are shown below.
The Robbers worked with Italian composer Daniele Luppi--who arranged the strings on Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" and John Legend's "Once Again"--for their sophomore effort, which follows up on 2005's full-length debut, "Tree City."
"We were excited to work with him because I thought, 'Now we can get really orchestral because we have this guy with so much experience,'" vocalist Ben Trokan said in a press statement. "And Daniele was thinking, 'I'm working with a rock band, I can get this done in two takes.' So it was kind of a battle at first, but in the end I’m glad things didn’t totally go my way because he helped us clear out a lot of space so you can really hear the melodies and catch the chord changes."
"I like to challenge myself," Trokan added. "It was never our intention to keep making the same record. I think this album is a step forward in terms of the songwriting--it's more refined. It's definitely not something I could have done if we hadn't made 'Tree City.'"
