Britney Spears to kick off MTV awards show
Tabloid mainstay Britney Spears will look to get her pop-music career back on track Sunday (9/9), when she's scheduled to open the 2007 Video Music Awards by performing her new song "Gimme More."
Spears consulted with illusionist Chriss Angel, star of A&E's "Mindfreak," "on some of the moments of the performance," MTV News reported.
"Gimme More" will appear on a new, as-yet-untitled Spears album that's due in stores on Nov. 13, according to an MTV press release.
Following her performance, two new Spears ringtones from "Gimme More" (one the "It's Britney, b----" intro to the song) will be sold via MTV Mobile, two days before they're made available via other services.
Additional performers scheduled to appear during the VMAs include Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown, Foo Fighers, Rihanna, Common, Nelly Furtado, Gym Class Heroes, Akon and Soulja Boy, T-Pain, Cee-Lo, Daniel Merriweather, Lil' Wayne, Alicia Keys, T.I., Adam Levine, Mastadon, and Serj Tankian from System of a Down.
Among the scheduled presenters are Diddy, Sarah Silverman, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader, Kid Rock, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Pamela Anderson, the cast of Entourage, Shia Labeouf, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Megan Fox, Jennifer Hudson, Rosario Dawson and Eve.
The 24th annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony will air live at 9 p.m. ET from Las Vegas' Palms Casino Resort. Timbaland will serve as the evening's "musical maestro," and he and Justin Timberlake will host their own party at the Palms Fantasy Suites, according to MTV.
Leading nominees include Timberlake and Beyonce, with seven nods apiece.
