Bon Jovi Conquers U.K. Album Chart
LONDON--Bon Jovi has proved that its U.K. fan base is as strong as ever as its new album "Crush" went straight to No. 1 on the Official U.K. Album Chart on Sunday (6/4). It felled Whitney Houston 's "The Greatest Hits" from the top position after it had been there for only two weeks.
With Houston at No. 2, rapper Eminem 's new album "The Marshall Mathers LP" also slid down one notch to No. 3 on its second week of release. Tom Jones' covers album "Reload," which has been on the chart for 36 weeks and gone double platinum with over 600,000 units moved, stayed steady at No. 4. Britney Spears' "Oops! ... I Did It Again" fell from No. 3 to No. 5 in its third week of release and Moby's double platinum album "Play" stayed at No. 6 for the second week running, having been in the chart for 28 weeks so far.
Meanwhile, heavy metal stalwarts Iron Maiden's new album "Brave New World" entered the chart at No. 7. The biggest jump of the week was had by Simply Red's "Greatest Hits," which rose 16 places from No. 26 to No. 10.
In the Official U.K. Singles Chart, dance star Sonique held onto the No. 1 spot for the second week running with "It Feels So Good" and pop group S Club 7 also stayed put at No. 2 for a second week with "Reach." Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" fell five places from No. 3 to No. 8 and Britney Spears' "Oops! ... I Did It Again" EP fell from No. 6 to No. 9.
The highest new entry was the debut solo outing of Boyzone member Stephen Gately, whose "New Beginning/Bright Eyes" EP entered the chart at No. 3. Rapper Dr Dre also had a high new entry this week as his new EP "Forget About Dre" feat Eminem debuted at No. 7.
