Guster mounts final push behind latest record
Alt-rockers Guster have lined up their last round of tour dates to support their most recent album, "Ganging Up on the Sun."
The band will start next month in the Northeast with a couple of radio shows and Farm Aid before heading to the West Coast for an eight-show run. Guster will then return to the eastern half of the US for a college tour and several club dates in the South. Pop-rock band Tally Hall will open shows on the West Coast, and folk-pop singer Brett Dennen will take over thereafter. The itinerary is listed below.
After the trek wraps in late October, Guster will go into hibernation to write its next album, according to the band's website. Meanwhile, the group plans to release a DVD, "Joe's Place," in November.
As for live shows, Guster will resurface early next year for the Ships and Dip Cruise with the Barenaked Ladies , which leaves from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jan. 27 and stops in Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Guster percussionist Brian Rosenworcel will not make the cruise so Barenaked Ladies' Tyler Stewart and Andy Creeggan will fill in.
Last spring, Guster, which has been called "rock and roll's greenest band," completed its second annual Campus Consciousness Tour to spread the word about environmental issues. Throughout the summer, the band has been playing a mixed bag of shows, headlining, opening a pair of dates for the Dave Matthews Band and making a couple of festival appearances.
Guster followed last year's studio effort, "Ganging Up on the Sun," with the April release of the 8-song EP "Satellite," which comprises live cuts and new recordings. Tracks from the album and the EP are streaming at the band's MySpace page.
