Daughtry rides success of best-selling album
The group, formed by "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, kicked off a major North American outing last month and will continue tonight (Aug. 30) in Rockford, IL. Since last check, the post-grunge rockers have added shows in Boston; Alpine, CA; Clearwater, FL; Niagara Falls, NY; Dallas; and Annapolis, MD. They've also squeezed in a couple of Australia dates next month. North American concerts are listed below while those overseas can be found at Daughtry's website.
The final gig on the band's itinerary--Nov. 14 in Chicago--is a performance that will be recorded for PBS-TV's "Soundstage" program. Tickets will not be available for sale but details about how fans can win passes will be revealed at Daughtry's website.
The group has also been tapped by Bon Jovi to open two of the 10 shows the rock veterans will play in October and November to break in Newark, NJ's new Prudential Center.
"It is a double honor to be part of the opening of the Prudential Center and to perform with New Jersey's very own Bon Jovi, who have been a personal inspiration and who we have the utmost respect and admiration for," Chris Daughtry said in a statement.
The frontman, who found quick fame last year as a final-four contestant on FOX-TV's "American Idol," has led his band into rock history books with the biggest-selling album in the US this year, according to a press release. Daughtry's self-titled debut, which surfaced in November, has sold more than 3 million copies and remained in the US Top 10 on the Billboard charts for 26 weeks.
The record has so far spawned radio hits "It's Not Over" and "Home," the latter of which is up for Monster Single of the Year at the Sept. 9 MTV Video Music Awards.
In the midst of touring, Daughtry will make time for a few television appearances: Sept. 12 on CBS-TV's "Early Show" and "Late Show with David Letterman," and Sept. 13 on ABC's "Live with Regis and Kelly."
