Jewel gets a little bit country
Grammy-nominated songstress Jewel expects to unveil some new material during a handful of US dates in October and November.
In addition to kicking it on the ranch this summer with her longtime boyfriend, rodeo star Ty Murray, Jewel has been traveling to Nashville to work on a country album, which she hopes to finish in the next few months.
"I have been writing country songs since I was 16, so I think it's time I shared some of my favorites with you all!!" the singer/songwriter wrote in a blog posting on her MySpace page.
She'll likely preview some of those tunes on a short, coast-to-coast trek that launches Oct. 12 in Washington, DC. So far, the outing comprises shows in eight US cities and a stop in Orillia, Ontario. Details are listed below.
Jewel's forthcoming set will follow last year's "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland," which she deems her most autobiographical album since her 1995 multi-platinum debut, "Pieces of You." That 12-million-seller, which spawned the hits "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games," remains Jewel's most commercially successful release to date.
Earlier this year, the performer released the song/video "Quest for Love," which was the lead single from the "Arthur and the Invisibles" movie soundtrack.
During her career, Jewel has delved into everything from folk, to rock, pop, country, blues, jazz and classical. Along the way, she's sold more than 25 million albums, according to her bio. She is also a poet, author, painter, actress and humanitarian.
Currently, the singer is featured with Murray and a host of other celebs in the reality show "Ty Murray's Celebrity Bullriding Challenge," which airs on Country Music Television.
