Eminem Arrested Following Scuffle At Michigan Bar
Rapper Eminem reportedly was among four people arrested in the wake of an after-hours brawl outside a club in a Warren, Mich., over the weekend, but it remained unclear on Monday morning (6/5) if he would face any charges. Local police said they were called to the scene after security guards detained a person with an unloaded gun during a melee.
In a written statement, police said they responded to the call at Hot Rocks Cafe at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday (6/4). "Patrol officers began to investigate the call, and while doing so noted that several people in the crowd were yelling loudly and refusing to clear the area upon being asked to do so," the statement said.
According to the Detroit Free Press, police arrested Eminem (whose real name is Marshall Mathers) and two others who were allegedly causing a disturbance at the scene, as well as the person who was detained by club security. Eminem was questioned by officers and released later Sunday morning.
Eminem could face charges of disorderly conduct or carrying a concealed weapon, but prosecutors hadn't filed a complaint against him by press time and police wouldn't say why he was detained. Disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor, but a conviction on concealed weapons charges can carry a five-year jail sentence.
The manager of the Hot Rocks Cafe told the Free Press that Eminem is a regular patron of the club, which is said to be near the rapper's childhood neighborhood. The scuffle reportedly began after about a dozen people recognized and approached Eminem, his wife Kim Scott and a friend in a parking lot behind the club.
In other Eminem news, KROQ radio has announced that "scheduling problems" will keep the 27-year-old rapper from performing as previously announced at the station's Weenie Roast festival. Tickets for the June 17 show in Anaheim went on sale and sold out over the weekend. Among the other acts on the bill for are Creed, Everclear, Godsmack, Incubus, Korn, Stone Temple Pilots, Limp Bizkit, Lit, Moby, No Doubt, the Offspring, Cypress Hill and Third Eye Blind.
About 1.7 million copies of Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" were sold in the U.S. during its first week of release. The album entered the Billboard 200 album chart this week at No. 1.
