US shows to be Morrissey's last 'for the foreseeable future'
Morrissey 's US dates this fall will mark the end of a 21-month-long world tour and may be the British alt-rock icon's final performances for quite some time.
The US outing kicks off Sept. 21 in Las Vegas and includes multi-show residencies in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. The final performance is set for Nov. 4 in Atlanta. Details are listed below.
"These shows will be the last Morrissey will do for the foreseeable future," a statement from the singer's publicist said. "With that in mind, all of the venues have been specifically chosen, as they are small and intimate where Morrissey can see the eyes of everyone in the audience and those in attendance can be in the thick of it."
The 10 concerts at Los Angeles' Palladium will be the venue's last hurrah before it closes for an extensive renovation, according to a press release. Beginning on Monday (8/27), fans will have a limited-time opportunity to purchase tickets to all 10 performances for the price of nine and gain early entry into the venue.
A similar offer will be made for the five shows at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Concert-goers can eliminate service charges by purchasing a "season pass" for $200 and they, too, will be moved to the front of the line.
Those who have been holding out to see Morrissey on a Smiths reunion tour can stop hoping. Morrissey's camp has quashed all such rumors, while admitting the singer was indeed approached by promoters and offered $75 million to reunite with the Smiths.
"The offer called for Morrissey to do a minimum of 50 shows all over the world under The Smiths' name with the only proviso being that Johnny Marr was also in the band," the statement said. "The offer has been refused."
Morrissey has been all over the world supporting his eight solo album, "Ringleader of the Tormentors," which was released in April 2006.
