Smashing Pumpkins get set for North America

About three weeks ahead of their North American tour launch, The Smashing Pumpkins have added more dates and released a new single.

The band, which is getting ready to wrap its second tour of Europe this year, is scheduled to kick off a run of US and Canadian dates Sept. 8 at Montreal's Osheaga Festival. Since last check, the Pumpkins have added Los Angeles' KROQ "L.A. Invasion" show and New Orleans' Voodoo Music Experience to the itinerary, along with stops in Tucson, AZ; Seattle; and Noblesville, IN. The band has also added second nights in Vancouver and Atlanta, and third nights in Boston and Philadelphia.

Alt-rockers The Bravery will open shows from Sept. 24 to Oct. 9, and The Explosions will take over from there. The itinerary is listed below.

On the road, original Pumpkins singer/guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are joined by guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Ginger Reyes and keyboardist Lisa Harriton.

The fall trek is The Smashing Pumpkins' first full-scale North American tour since 2000. Earlier this month, the resurrected band wrapped a couple of sold-out residencies which saw the members play nine shows in Asheville, NC, and 11 in San Francisco. During the residencies, the group rotated more than 70 songs, some of which were written day of show.

For those gigs, fans were invited to bring cameras and recording equipment, and clips are now circulating all over the Internet. Behind-the-scenes footage shot by the band is available at The Smashing Pumpkins website.

Meanwhile, the rockers have just released "That's the Way (My Love Is)," the second single from their new album, "Zeitgeist." The Paul Brown-directed video for the song is due in the coming weeks.

"Zeitgeist," which surfaced last month, is the Pumpkins' sixth album and first collection of new material since 2000's "Machina/The Machines of God." The set reached No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and the lead cut, "Tarantula," peaked at No. 2 on the magazine's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
