Garth Brooks offers new songs on hits album
Garth Brooks is set to release a three-disc hits collection later this year that will include three new songs, one bonus track and a DVD featuring 34 music videos.
During a Nashville press conference last weekend, it was announced that "The Ultimate Hits" would be in stores Nov. 6. The set's lead single, "More Than A Memory," will be launched to radio Aug. 27.
"The Ultimate Hits" is Brooks' first release since his two-year deal with Wal-Mart expired last month. The collection will be distributed to a variety of retail outlets through the country star's own Pearl Records, according to Billboard. It will likely be priced between $11 and $14.
Brooks, who retired from touring in 2001 to spend more time with his children, admitted that with all the competition in country music, he is apprehensive about jumping back in.
"I'm scared to death because, I mean if you've ever stood outside a race track, and try to figure
out how in the world do you ever get up to that speed without getting run over, that's where I'm at," the singer said.
While Brooks intends to stay semi-retired until all of his daughters finish school in 2015, he will support the new release with some special shows, starting with a Wal-Mart appreciation concert. He said he would also promote the set via television, radio and other media through February.
Brooks is the fastest-selling solo artist in music history, moving more than 100 million albums in 10 years, according to his website.
After Capitol Records honored him for hitting the 100 million mark in October 2000, Brooks broke the news that he would record his final record for the label and then give up touring to be a stay-at-home dad.
His final album for Capitol, "Scarecrow," surfaced in November 2001 and marked his seventh No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200.
Last year, Brooks put out two releases through his Wal-Mart partnership: "The Lost Sessions," a 17-song collection of previously unreleased material, and "The Entertainer," a five-disc DVD set comprising music and photos from Brooks' television specials and a collection of videos. Both broke Wal-Mart sales records.
