Flood of Led Zeppelin releases due this winter
British heavy rock icons Led Zeppelin will spring back to life this winter with a weighty new compilation and a remastered version of the band's groundbreaking 1976 concert film.
"Mothership," due in stores Nov. 13, gathers 24 tracks on two CDs for a career-spanning retrospective. All eight of the band's studio albums are represented in the set, which will be released through Atlantic/Rhino.
Besides the standard 2-CD version, the set will also be available in a deluxe edition that also includes 90 minutes of live concert footage on one DVD, as well as a collector's edition that features the above in limited-issue packaging. The package will also be available as a 4-LP vinyl set.
In addition to "Mothership," November will also see the release of a newly remixed and remastered version of the band's 1976 concert document, "The Song Remains the Same." Originally released only in movie theaters, the film captures the band in its prime, performing during three 1973 shows at New York's Madison Square Garden.
The enhanced "Song" DVD contains the original concert film, plus 40 minutes of bonus material, including a 1976 BBC interview with lead singer Robert Plant and unreleased footage of the band performing "Celebration Day" and "Over the Hills and Far Away," as well as two other songs.
Both the soundtrack album from the film--sporting six songs that were not on the original release--and the film itself on DVD will hit retailers Nov. 20. The film and soundtrack, as well as the "Mothership" compilation, will be sold through the band's official website, as well as traditional outlets.
Led Zeppelin's members--frontman Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham--joined forces in the summer of 1968. The group released eight studio albums between 1969 and 1979, and has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, according to the group's publicist.
The band disbanded in 1980 following Bonham's alcohol-related death in 1980. The group never offered fans a full-scale reunion, but Page and Plant have worked together frequently on various projects over the years.
