Bassist and Grateful Dead co-founder Phil Lesh [ tickets ] is taking his friends back on the road this fall for a US tour that stretches from California to New York.

Phil Lesh & Friends will start jamming Sept. 22 in Santa Barbara, CA, and play multiple nights in cities including Denver, Chicago and Boston before wrapping in November with a nine-show residency at New York City's Nokia Theatre Times Square. Details are listed below.

On this trip, Lesh's ever-changing lineup of "friends" includes singer/songwriter Jackie Greene [ tickets ], guitarist Larry Campbell, drummer John Molo and Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz.

Last year, the jam band put out several live albums, including "Live at the Warfield." Lesh & Friends recorded the CD/DVD set during a two-night stand in San Francisco with singer Joan Osborne, guitarists Campbell and John Scofield, saxophonist Greg Osby, keyboardist Rob Barraco and Molo on drums. Lesh has put out one studio album since his days with the Grateful Dead: 2002's "There and Back Again."

The pioneering bassist played with the Dead for three decades. Since Jerry Garcia's death in 1995, Lesh has joined bandmates Bob Weir and Mickey Hart in the Other Ones and The Dead, in addition to launching a solo career.

Last year, the musician underwent surgery for prostate cancer. At the time, Lesh said in a statement that doctors caught the condition early and he expected to make a full recovery. After years of battling Hepatitis C, he underwent a liver transplant in 1998.
