Meat Puppets 'Rise' to next hurdle on comeback trail

After a brief tour this spring shook off years of accumulated rust, Meat Puppets continue their comeback this fall with the band's first extensive outing in more than a decade.

The resurgent trio (which includes original members Curt and Cris Kirkwood as well as new drummer Ted Marcus--founding member Derrick Bostrom chose not to participate in the reunion) will kick things off Aug. 23 in Laredo, TX, with a slate of 20 shows on the map through mid-September. All of the band's dates are included below.

The trio, backing its July comeback release, "Rise to Your Knees," will also play a pair of Texas shows in October with old friends Sonic Youth, Oct. 5 in Austin, and Oct. 7 in Dallas.

"Rise to Your Knees" is the band's first studio effort since 2000's "Golden Lies," and Cris Kirkwood's first album with the band since 1995's "No Joke!" The band originally called it quits in 2001, following Cris Kirkwood's well-publicized struggles with drug addiction.

"This record is very much a return to our '80s approach," Curt Kirkwood said of the new disc in a prepared statement. "It cost next to nothing to make, and everything on it is a first take. My attitude now is that I refuse to spend a lot of money on this, I refuse to overthink it, and I refuse to let other people impose their own agendas on my band."
