Ricky Martin brings his bon-bon back to the US
Ricky Martin 's Black & White Tour did so well in North America last spring that the Latin pop star is coming back this fall.
Martin will return to the US beginning Sept. 29 with a couple of California dates. He'll then move on to to a four-show run of Texas, including a makeup date in El Paso, and do a three-night stand in Miami before playing New York City's Madison Square Garden in mid-October. More shows are expected to be announced shortly, according to a press release. The current itinerary is listed below.
The singer, who is currently wrapping a European jaunt, kicked off his world tour in February with a record-setting, four-night stand at The Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in his native Puerto Rico. He'll return to the venue Aug. 10-11 to film a concert DVD that is planned for release later this year.
During his initial US run, Martin performed in sold-out arenas and garnered rave reviews in cities including Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami. He was sidelined briefly in May when a back injury forced him to cancel shows in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.
The Grammy-winning star continues to support his November CD/DVD release, "Ricky Martin : MTV Unplugged," which features acoustic versions of nine of his biggest hits and three new tracks, including "Tu Recuerdo" and "Pegate," both of which hit the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
The set follows 2005's "Life," which was Martin's first English-language album in five years.
During his nearly two-decade career, Martin has sold more than 55 million albums, according to his bio. Last month, it was announced that his success and philanthropic efforts have earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That ceremony will be held this fall.
When he's not making music, Martin is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and oversees the Ricky Martin Foundation, which advocates for the well being of children around the globe. His latest contribution is a Dominican television and radio campaign to warn people about human trafficking and sexual exploitation, according to the Associated Press.
