Tori Amos rides with her 'Posse'
Tori Amos , who just finished the European leg of her world tour, is building the itinerary for her North American jaunt.
After a September run of Australia, the singer/songwriter/pianist will be back in the States starting Oct. 9 with four shows in New York. She'll make her way across the country through mid-December, stopping for a few shows in Canada and wrapping in Los Angeles. So far, 33 cities have been nailed down, but many of the venues have yet to be announced. The trek is expected to hit close to 50 cities when it's all said and done, according to Amos' website. The itinerary, as it stands, is included below. Overseas dates can be found at Amos' website.
The Grammy-nominated performer is supporting her ninth studio album, "American Doll Posse," which surfaced in May and snagged the No. 5 spot on The Billboard 200. The sprawling, 23-song set introduces a quartet of alter-egos modeled after Greek goddesses: the outwardly political Isabel, the emotionally wounded but idealistic Clyde, the warrior Pip and the sensualist Santa.
Amos' previous albums have tackled one aspect of her personality at a time, whereas "American Doll Posse" brings them all together.
"If you look at all the records, I was exploring these character traits, these feminine personality traits, usually in a sonic narrative form," Amos explains in her bio. "And together, they make the complete woman."
Amos channels each character, complete with her own look, on tour, and each has her own blog space at Amos' website.
"This allows the five women [including Amos, herself] to explore and develop as opposed to them being restrained and contained in a portraiture medium," the singer said. "This way, they learn and they grow in front of everybody's eyes."
The new album, which follows 2005's "The Beekeeper," was written and produced by Amos and recorded at her own Martian Engineering Studio in Cornwall, England. It is available in a limited-edition version that includes five collectible postcards, a 36-page booklet and a DVD with a bonus track and behind-the-scenes footage. A few songs from the set are streaming at Amos' MySpace page
Coming up, Amos is expected to announce a series of official live bootlegs recorded during her fall tour, according to reports.
