Rooney goes 'Calling the World'

After several delays, Southern California pop-rockers Rooney have finally released their sophomore album and are hitting the road to support the set.

This month, the five-piece band has some club dates and several gigs opening for Fergie in the West. In mid-August, Rooney will head East for a tour with The Hush Sound and Hello Stranger . The itinerary is listed below. The band is also expected to announce a September run of Europe.

Rooney just released the long-awaited follow-up to its 2003 self-titled debut. Though the new set, "Calling the World," was a long time coming, it was recorded in just three weeks with producer John Fields (Andrew WK, Switchfoot).

The album's hold up wasn't due to a lack of trying. The band actually set out to make the record a couple of times in the last few years, recording two full albums of material with two different producers, according to CBS News website The ShowBuzz. The guys just weren't happy with the results.

"I think that in a weird way, all this time we took to turn it around was really good," drummer Ned Brower told The ShowBuzz. "I think we had it fairly easy in our first record and everything went smoothly. I think we were put to the test in the last couple of years making the album. It's been amazing."

He added that the band has maintained its fan base by continuing to tour in-between albums.

Several songs from "Calling the World" are streaming at Rooney's MySpace page. The video for the first single, "When Did Your Heart Go Missing," features a cameo from singer/songwriter Robert Schwartzman's mom, Academy Award-nominated actress Talia Shire. The video is streaming at Rooney's website.

Between tours, the band will appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Aug. 4.
