Merle Haggard tours ahead of new album
Country legend Merle Haggard is set to headline US shows in the East and Midwest next month before rejoining Willie Nelson and Ray Price for another round of dates on the Last of the Breed tour.
Haggard, who has a new album due this fall, will launch his own two-week trek Aug. 2 in Owensboro, KY. He'll jump on the Last of the Breed outing Aug. 17 in Oklahoma City and play arenas and amphitheaters in the South and on the East Coast into September. Details are listed below.
Earlier this year, Haggard, Nelson and Price released their first album together, "Last of the Breed," a two-disc, 22-song collection including new versions of country classics and two new songs: Haggard's "Sweet Jesus" and Nelson's "Back To Earth." The three Country Music Hall of Famers first hit the road together in March to support the set.
In October, Haggard is scheduled to put out "The Bluegrass Sessions," his first set of bluegrass music in his 40-year career. The album will comprise reworked versions of Haggard classics, a medley of Jimmie Rodgers songs and some new tunes, including a duet with Alison Krauss, according to Country Music Television's website.
The 70-year-old singer/guitarist's most recent solo studio album is 2005's "Chicago Wind," which is a mix of covers and originals, including anti-war tunes "Where's All the Freedom" and "America First."
Haggard, a two-time Grammy winner, was honored with the Grammy organization's Lifetime Achievement Award last year.
