Velvet Revolver fills in 'Libertad' trek
Now that its sophomore album is in stores, Velvet Revolver is gearing up for a major North American tour and has announced dates through October.
The rock-and-roll supergroup has booked shows all over the US and a few in Canada, beginning Aug. 5 in Baltimore. So far, the trek is scheduled to wrap Oct. 9 in Southaven, MS. Alice in Chains will open most of the dates, which are listed below.
Velvet Revolver has been performing in South America, Europe and theaters across the US ahead of its new album, "Libertad," which hit stores July 3. The band will play mostly amphitheaters on the upcoming trek.
"Libertad" snagged the No. 5 spot on the Billboard 200, selling 92,000 copies the week of its release. Meanwhile, the record's first single, "She Builds Quick Machines," has been making waves at radio, hitting the mainstream- and modern-rock charts. That song and others from the album are streaming at Velvet Revolver's website and MySpace page.
The supergroup comprises former Stone Temple Pilot singer Scott Weiland; former Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums); and former Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner.
Velvet Revolver's debut album, 2004's "Contraband," sold three million copies worldwide and won a Grammy Award for the lead track, "Slither."
