Maroon 5 launches arena trek 'Before Long'

Pop-rockers Maroon 5 have assembled a world tour to support their new, platinum-selling album, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long."

The trek kicks off Sept. 29 in Detroit and hits US arenas from coast to coast, as well as a couple in Canada, with a Nov. 10 finale in Las Vegas. Swedish garage-rockers The Hives will open all shows, which are listed below. Maroon 5 will then jet to Europe for a few weeks in November and December. Those dates can be found at the band's website.

The outing follows a spring tour of clubs, which gave Maroon 5 a chance to get intimate with fans before easing back into larger venues. The band will get to warm up for larger audiences when it opens for The Police tomorrow (7/10) at Miami's Dolphin Stadium.

"We can't wait to get out on the road and perform in arenas," frontman Adam Levine said in a statement. "This tour will have something for everyone, new and old fans alike, with our new music mixed with some of our earlier hits."

Levine added that the band is proud to be working with Global Cool to make the tour environmentally friendly. In addition to reducing carbon emissions produced by the tour, Maroon 5 will donate $1 from each ticket purchased in North America to buy "carbon neutral" offsets.

"Our world is in a serious predicament right now, and we all need to play a role in reversing the catastrophic affects of global warming," Levine said.

"It Won't Be Soon Before Long," Maroon 5's sophomore set, debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in May and sold more than a million copies in less than three weeks. It also sold more pre-sale copies on iTunes than any other album in the online retailer's history, according to a press release.

The record's first single, "Makes Me Wonder," made the largest jump to No. 1 in the history of The Billboard Hot 100, moving from No. 64 to No. 1. That song and the upcoming second single, "Wake Up Call," are streaming at Maroon 5's website and MySpace page.

The new album follows 2002's "Songs About Jane," which built slowly but eventually sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and earned Maroon 5 its first Grammy Award. Last year, the group scored a second Grammy for its live recording of the single "This Love."
