Heaven and Hell adds new dates to fall trek
Heaven and Hell --which reunites Ronnie James Dio with two founding members of Black Sabbath --has tacked on several new dates to the band's fall calendar.
The group--composed of Black Sabbath founding members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, along with onetime Sabbath vocalist Dio and drummer Vinnie Appice--is set to kick off its fall tour Sept. 5 in Binghamton, NY, with the new dates upping the total number of cities on the trek to an even 20.
Fellow hard rockers Queensryche and Alice Cooper will handle opening duties for the outing, which runs through the first week of October. The complete schedule is included below.
The reunion of Dio and his one-time Sabbath bandmates came about when the musicians convened in a studio last year to record three new songs for the era-spanning Rhino compilation "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years," which hit stores in April.
The sessions "went so well that the band agreed to satisfy longstanding demands for a reunion tour," according to a press release.
Dio filled in for original Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne twice during the '80s and '90s.
The first US concert of the band's "comeback" tour, a late-March appearance in New York City, was taped for a CD/DVD combo, "Heaven and Hell Live From Radio City Music Hall." The set is due to hit stores Aug. 28 on the Rhino label.
Iconic hard-rocker Cooper, who spends much of his time these days hosting his syndicated "Nights with Alice Cooper" radio show, recently wrote an autobiography, "Golf Monster," which was released last month. Veteran prog-metal outfit Queensryche continues to tour behind last year's "Operation: Mindcrime II."
