George Jones lines up long road trip

Country music legend George Jones [ tickets ] kicks off his summer touring season with an impressive run of shows that takes him deep into fall and the latter parts of the year.

The 76-year-old performer, whose 1980 hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in January, will kick off his outing with a three-night stretch beginning July 20 in Pigeon Forge, TN.

The Country Hall-of-Famer's run peaks with 16 shows in October alone, tapering off after that into a handful of concerts in late fall and early winter. The singer's complete schedule is included below.

Jones continues to support "God's Country," a tribute album of sorts. The disc, which appeared last October, features an all-star lineup performing many of Jones' classic numbers, and also features the singer himself appearing on two songs: the album's title track, which is an original Jones composition, and a duet with Garth Brooks [ tickets ].

"Nobody in the world sings like him. Nobody in the world can sing like him," Vince Gill [ tickets ], who also appears on the album, said in a press release. "It's like trying to cover The Beatles."

Other performers on the set include Sammy Kershaw [ tickets ], Pam Tillis [ tickets ] and Tanya Tucker [ tickets ].

Jones recently appeared in the video for country singer Tracy Lawrence [ tickets ]'s "Find Out Who Your Friends Are," along with Darryl Worley, Roy Oswalt of the Houston Astros, and Cornelius Griffin and Demetric Evans of the Washington Redskins.
