Martin Sexton spreads 'Seeds' through summer
Soul man Martin Sexton continues to support his new record with another round of North American dates.
This time, the native New Yorker is sticking close to the East Coast, starting with a July 4 gig in Tupper Lake, NY. However, he does have one date in California, one in Colorado and a couple of Canadian cities on the schedule. The itinerary is listed below.
In April, Sexton released his seventh album, "Seeds," on his own Kitchen Table Records label. The set reached No. 17 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and became the No. 1 most added at Triple A Radio, according to trade magazine FMQB.
"Seeds" delves into a range of genres, including gospel, country, blues, rock and pop. Guest artists on the record include Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and one-man jam band Keller Williams. The lead single, "Happy," is streaming at Sexton's MySpace page.
The critically acclaimed singer/songwriter hit the road in April for a coast-to-coast US tour that became his fastest-selling trek up to that point, his publicist said. Shows sold out in major cities including Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis and NYC, where Sexton played his largest venue to date in that market--the Nokia Theatre--according to a press release.
Meanwhile, Sexton has been putting in the effort to make his outings eco-friendly, using a bio-diesel bus, recycling, selling organic-cotton T-shirts and collaborating with several eco-conscious sponsors.
The fiercely independent musician has garnered a good deal of success despite his rejection of major labels. Sexton previously recorded for Atlantic Records but asked to be released from his contract, according to his bio. He launched his own label, Kitchen Table Records, in 2002 with his first live album, "Live Wide Open."
