Briefly: Tom Waits, Stack Bundles, Linkin Park, Trapt
Waits originally co-wrote the song for Solomon Burke , who recorded it for his 2002 album, "Don't Give Up on Me." Waits' live rendition will turn up on July 10's "Healing the Divide: A Concert for Peace and Reconciliation," which captures his Sept. 21, 2003 performance with The Kronos Quartet at New York City's Avery Fisher Hall.
"Working with the Kronos Quartet was like firing a .38 Special with a clam shell holster: beauty meets brains," Waits said in a press release.
All proceeds from iTunes and CD sales of "Healing the Divide" will benefit the Tibetan Health Initiative, a program that provides health insurance and medical care to impoverished Buddhist monks and nuns living in refugee settlements, according to a press release, which goes on to say that each CD purchase covers one year of health insurance.
A suspect in the recent murder of up-and-coming rapper Stack Bundles (real name Rayquon Elliott) was found shot to death in Queens, NY, Monday (6/18), according to AllHipHop.com. Police reportedly found Charles White, 20, also an aspiring rapper, dead in a Queens home with a pillow over his head, two bullet wounds to the head and one to the leg. White reportedly was a suspect in the slaying of Elliott, 24, who died June 11 after he was shot three times in front of his New York home.
White's body was discovered the same day Elliott's funeral took place.
Linkin Park 's "Minutes to Midnight," which hit stores in mid-May and sold about 624,000 copies during its first week out, has since been certified platinum, signifying US sales of 1 million copies. The album has shipped more than 3.3 million copies worldwide, according to a press release.
As previously reported, Linkin Park will head out on tour next month.
Rockers Trapt will release a live album Aug. 21 that will feature a new song titled "Stay Alive," according to a press release. The band plans to hit the studio later this year to begin work on its next full-length set.
