Velvet Revolver assembles trek with Alice in Chains
Rockers Velvet Revolver have announced dates for the first leg of their upcoming tour with Alice in Chains .
The outing will kick off Aug. 5 in Baltimore, MD, and hit mainly outdoor venues along the East Coast and into the Midwest and Canada through the end of that month. Details are listed below. The full trek is expected to stretch into October, according to Velvet Revolver's website.
The band is getting ready for the July 3 release of its sophomore album, "Libertad," which follows 2004's Grammy-winning "Contraband." The new set's lead single, "She Builds Quick Machines," is streaming at VR's website and MySpace page.
"Libertad," produced by Brendan O'Brien (Stone Temple Pilots), is said to be singer Scott Weiland's first album recorded clean of drugs. Weiland recently told Rolling Stone that the difference is a stronger voice and deeper emotional connection to his work.
The frontman also said that "Libertad" goes beyond what the band accomplished on its debut.
"'Libertad' definitely rocks, but there are a lot more textures and everyone really raised the bar on their skills," he said in a statement.
Velvet Revolver--which comprises former Stone Temple Pilots singer Weiland; former Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums); and former Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner--launched a world tour earlier this year in South America, has since completed a run of the US and is currently in Europe.
The band is also promoting its forthcoming album with television appearances this month and next on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
