Prince takes up residency at Hollywood Roosevelt
The official announcement is in: Prince will play a seven-show run this summer at California's Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
An intimate audience of 200 will have the opportunity to see the Purple One at the hotel's Blossom Room beginning this weekend. Dates have been confirmed for June 23-24 and 28-30, with two more forthcoming, according to a press release.
VIP packages, including dinner at the hotel's Dakota Restaurant prepared by Prince's personal chef, will be offered to 130 guests for $3,121 per couple. An additional 70 standing-room-only tickets will be available for $312.10 each.
The prices are a reference to Prince's latest album, "3121," which was released in March 2006 and scored the singer his first No. 1 debut.
During his Hollywood Roosevelt stay, Prince is expected to play two-hour sets and debut new music from his forthcoming album, "Planet Earth," which is due July 24. At the venue, fans will be able to download the leadoff single, "Guitar," for free courtesy of Verizon Wireless' new V Cast Song ID technology. Following his performances, Prince will preside over an after-hours, free-form jazz jam, according to the press release.
Tickets and VIP packages can be ordered by emailing 3121HRH@ThompsonHotels.com.
Following the Hollywood residency and a couple more US dates, Prince is scheduled to launch a 21-show run at London's new O2 Arena beginning Aug. 1. The first 15 concerts sold out in a matter of hours, according to His Purple Highness' website, which states: "The 21 shows in London will see Prince perform his greatest hits for the last time ever, centre stage in the round."
The London shows will be a much more affordable ₤31.21 (about $62 US) and include a copy of Prince's new album. The singer said he wanted to bring down the price since many of his British fans didn't get to see him the last time around.
During a recent press conference, Prince also said the UK appearances would be his last "for a while" as he plans to "travel and study the bible." Further details about the London shows are available at Prince's website.
Meanwhile, the pop star has a hometown gig set for July 7 at Minneapolis' Target Center. He is also booked to play the July 14 kickoff of East Hampton, NY's five-show "Social" concert series, which is billed as the "ultimate rock 'n' roll fantasy," costing a whopping $15,000 per person.
