Noel Explains His Sudden Departure From Oasis
LONDON--Two days after walking out on Oasis ' European tour, founding member Noel Gallagher has blamed his departure on his brother Liam's behavior.
Gallagher said in an interview on Thursday (5/25) with U.K. tabloid the Sun that he can no longer stand his younger brother.
"He's the singer so we have a professional relationship. We don't have a relationship outside the band. We are not good at playing happy families," Noel told the Sun.
The Manchester-born guitarist stuck by his decision never to tour with the band overseas again, but firmly denied that he would be quitting Oasis.
"Am I seriously considering leaving the band? No. I intend to do a solo album but a solo album doesn't necessarily mean you're leaving the band. I intend to do both," he told the Sun.
Noel went on to say that he was fed-up with Liam's massive ego and looked down upon his brother's recent claim that he was "born to be a star." "He's just a normal kid with a good voice singing in a band. It's as simple as that. He's a singer. Singers have massive egos."
Gallagher's replacement Matt Deighton is scheduled to fill in beginning next Tuesday (5/29). However, Deighton has admitted that he has never met Liam and does not yet know the guitar parts for Oasis' songs. "I don't know the songs yet--but I will by next Tuesday," he told the Sun. "[Being asked to fill in for Noel] was completely out of the blue ... It's a bit bizarre. I don't know what's going on."
Oasis' recent studio LP "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants" debuted on the Billboard 200 chart on March 18 at No. 24. Its last week in the chart was May 6 at No. 189.
