Stephen Stills spends 'Evening' with North America

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Stephen Stills is launching the second leg of his solo tour this month and looking forward to releasing a collection of long-lost demos.

The trek, dubbed "An Evening with Stephen Stills," will take the artist to clubs and theaters all over the US, as well as Toronto and Vancouver. Backing him on the road will be drummer Joe Vitale and bassist Kenny Passarelli. Dates, which kick off June 15 in Toronto, are listed below.

On tour, Stills will perform songs from throughout his four-decade career, including material from his most recent solo album, 2006's "Man Alive!" He is known for his solo work and as a member of groups including Crosby, Stills & Nash, CSN&Y, The Buffalo Springfield and Manassas.

"Doing this tour is all about having fun," Stills told the Winston-Salem Journal last month. "I haven't done anything this intimate in a long, long time, and I think it will be good for me and for the fans. People will be surprised by the new songs, and by how well many of the older ones hold up ... I'll actually get to talk, and tell a few stories, so it's all kind of like my short-cut autobiography."

Part of that autobiography lies in a collection of demos from an impromptu 1968 session in New York City. Stills left the masters in the studio and they were almost discarded when the facility closed in 1978, according to a press release. But a savvy musician who was rehearsing there at the time took possession of the tapes until he could get them back to Stills--a feat that took 25 years.

On July 10, Stills plans to release "Just Roll Tape," a set of 12 of those demos. The collection includes first-ever recordings of songs that would later become classics for Stills and his groups, including "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Helplessly Hoping," "Wooden Ships" and "Change Partners."

Stills has been named No. 28 on Rolling Stone's list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." He is the only artist ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice in one night--for Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
