Britney Spears' New Album Debuts At No. 1
Britney Spears ' "Oops … I Did It Again," released last Tuesday (5/16), sold 1.3 million units in its first week. The album will debut at No. 1 in this Thursday's (5/25) edition of Billboard's Album 200 chart. "Oops" knocks 'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" out of the top slot, a position held by the boy band for the last eight weeks.
In addition to grabbing the No. 1 slot, "Oops" now holds the record for the second-largest seven-day sales totals, based on SoundScan figures. 'N Sync's "No Strings" hangs on to that top honor after selling 2.4 million units during its first week of release.
"No Strings" lands in the No. 4 spot on the Album 200 chart this week after being pushed down the list by two other first-week releases. Pearl Jam 's latest, "Binaural," sold roughly 1.1 million copies less than "Oops," but still managed to snag the No. 2 spot with sales of 226,000 units. Rap duo Big Tymers ' "I Got That Work" came in at No. 3, after selling 187,000 units. Rounding out the top five is Whitney Houston's "Greatest Hits" collection, with 158,000 copies sold.
