MewithoutYou throws potlucks for fans

Christian punk/metal act MewithoutYou has set out on a headlining tour with a twist, putting on potlucks at every venue along the way and encouraging fans to bring food to the shows.

The group is opening the doors two hours early to each of the venues on its current trek, which kicked off last week in Salt Lake City and continues Friday night (6/1) in Portland, OR, with attendees invited to bring a potluck dish for others to share, and concert-goers encouraged to "eat and drink and talk and sing and get to know each other," according to a press release.

The band, still supporting last year's "Brother, Sister," is also giving fans the opportunity to play music on "non-guitar instruments," both at the potlucks and onstage with the group itself during its concerts. Further information about how to get onstage can be found at MewithoutYou's MySpace page.

The group will hit 21 cities on its current outing, which winds its way across the country until the end of June. The full itinerary is listed below.

"Brother, Sister," produced by Brad Wood (Pete Yorn, Smashing Pumpkins), hit stores last September. MewithoutYou frontman Aaron Weiss explained in a press release that he altered his vocal style and the band employed "atypical instrumentation" when the group set out to record its second album.

"A lot of our old stuff is all shouting and that's still there," Weiss said. "But I've never really listened to heavy music; with this record, my goal was to make music that I wanted to listen to. Not everyone agreed at first, but I wanted to incorporate different types of melodies and instruments--and those are probably some of my favorite moments on the record."
